Our Company


SONGHAI HEALTH TRUST LIMITED (SHTL) is a Health Maintenance Organization incorporated on the 8th of June 2001 for the business of providing managed healthcare service to public and private sector employers, employees and individuals under a prepaid arrangement via the use of in-house clinics and a network of primary, secondary and specialist (tertiary) hospital spread all over the country. SHTL is one of the few duly licensed National Health Maintenance Organization by the National Health Insurance Scheme.


Our mission is to provide employers and employees with comprehensive benefit-managed healthcare programmes that will enable employers to control the costs of health benefits while allowing employees within the plan to have access to quality healthcare. We shall provide your employees and their families the best of healthcare with the minimum of restrictions and the broadest individual choice of providers. Our network of healthcare providers is spread all over the country and is coordinated by our head office in Abuja assisted by our regional/Branch offices in Kano, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri, Jos, Kaduna, Katsina, Idah, Enugu, Warri, Benin, Lokoja, Damaturu and Sokoto. Our plans are quite flexible and we are prepared to propose a customized healthcare plan that could better suit your staff needs. This may include the establishment and management of a staff clinic. We shall be prepared to make a formal presentation of our proposals at a short notice.


At the apex of our company structure is the Board of Directors which comprises of highly tested and trusted professionals each with over twenty years of working experience.

Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, CON (Chairman)

A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained B.Sc. Economics. He holds M.Sc. & Ph.D Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom. He has worked in Public Sector and served on several Boards. He was a member of the Federal Executive Council as Minister of Finance (2007-2009) and later Minister of National Planning (2009-2013). He was Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (1999-2007) and Managing Director NAL Merchant Bank (1995-1999).He is Chairman/CEO, Susman & Associates. Currently, he is Chairman Board of Directors of Songhai Health Trust Limited

Dr. Basheer I. Mohammed BSc, DDS, COMS, IDIPSM, MIIRSM, FICA

A 1974 Biochemistry graduate of the famous University of Toronto, Canada and a 1978 Dental graduate of Howard University, Washington D.C. He also holds a 1981 post graduate certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the latter institution. Dr. Mohammed attended several professional and management courses both in Nigeria and abroad. In September 2002, he obtained an international Diploma in Safety Management (IDIPSM) from the British Safety Council and the same year became a member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (MIIRSM). From August 1981 to November 2003, Dr. Mohammed worked in the Medical Services Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He retired with the rank of General Manager. During the course of his employment with the Corporation, he served at various times as a consultant Oral Surgeon to the State House Clinic Lagos, Military Hospital Yaba, Police Hospital Lagos, State House Annex Clinic etc.

Barrister Dahiru Ibrahim

A 1978 LLB graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, barrister Ibrahim is the Board’s legal consultant, who also holds a 1982 Master of Laws degree from the University College, London. He brings to the Board a wealth of experience on Administration and legal matters both from the Public and Private Sector perspectives. whic has in turn being of great relevance to theorganizations at large.

Mallam Abdulkareem Mohammed SANI, FCA

He is the director Representing, New Nigeria Development Company, NNDC. Mallam Abdulkareem M. Sani, presently the Assistant General Manager, Group Internal Audit of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC), obtained his B.sc Accountancy in University of Maiduguri in 1994. He also obtained MBA in Business Administration in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2002. He severed in various establishments before joining the NNDC Limited Group in March 2001

Dr. (Mrs.) Nadia Nasidi

Dr. (Mrs.) Nasidi is a 1979 Medical graduate of Kalinin State University in the former Soviet Union. She also obtained an M.Sc, degree in Obstetric and Gyenaecology in Moscow in 1982. She has worked in several medical establishments both in the former Soviet Union and Nigeria. She is currently the Chief Medical Director of Pyramid Medical Center, which is one of our Healthcare Providers. She has kindly agreed to cover the duties of the Chief Medical Officer of Songhai Health Trust Limited until a substantive one is sourced and appointed.

Architect U. K. Umaru

A 1983 graduate in Architecture from the former Soviet Union, Architect U.K.Umaru has a lot of experience in business management. He holds a certificate in management and an M.Sc. degree in Project Management from the University of Reading in England. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of D&B Limited, a construction firm based in Abuja and proudly one of our board members.

Alhaji Abdullahi Bamanga

Alhaji Abdullahi Bamanga is a 1986 graduate of Kaduna Polytechnic and a business magnate who has made a carrier out of the Maritime Industry. He has held several Board and management positions in various private companies. He is currently the Managing Director (CEO) of TOKKE MARITIME SERVICES LTD. which is the holding company of TOKKE GROUP of Companies based in Nigeria.

Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, B.Sc, M.Sc

(Director Representing, New Nigeria Development Company, NNDC). He obtained his B.Sc. Physics in University of Maiduguri in 1985 and M.Sc. Physics in University of Ibadan in 1988. He is an experienced Public and Private Sector Administrator with over 30 years of meritorious services (23 years in Education Sector of which 6 years are in Private Sector) and a one year admirable Public Service calling by the President of Nigeria. A very versatile personality with wide range of experience in various fields of national development.

Bello Bawa Bwari

Bello Bawa Bwari is trained lawyer, a businessman and a entrepreneur with over 15 years working experience. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a B.L from the Nigerian Law School. As part of his working experience, he has worked with several law firms and companies. These organisations include Kutigi & Co (Law Firm), Bwari, Akubuo & Associates, the National Assembly of Nigeria, the Irania Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC), chrome Oil Services Ltd, Rockline Infrastructures Ltd (EPC Construction), Visapoint Development Company Limited (FMCG Trading), ABMK & Co and Petro Trns-Ennikim JV Company.
